NALAG PARTICIPATES IN THE FIRST FORUM OF TERRITORIAL MANAGERS AND TRAINING INSTITUTIONS:NALAG Stories

The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) has joined Local Government Authorities in participating in the first forum for local government officials and managers of training institutions which took place at the Campus of the International University of Rabat (UIR) from September 18 to 20, 2017.  The forum was under the theme, "Human Resources in African Local Governments: The Time to Act ... is Now!”

The forum was attended by more than 400 participants from 58 countries, across the World. The participants included Ministers, Presidents of Associations of Local Governments, Presidents and Directors of Training Institutes, local government senior staff, experts in local governance and members from civil societies and the general public.

The President of the Association, Hon. Felix Mensah Nii Anang-LA, and the General Secretary, Hon. Amankwah Kokro, represented the Association in the all-important Forum that saw other delegates like Ms. Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister for Local Government and Rural Developments (MLGRD), Ghana, and Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, Head of Local Government Service (LGS) and other distinguished leaders from across the world.

The three day forum addressed the following issues with extensive discussion around:

  • The place of human capital in the new geopolitical context of decentralization in Africa;
  • Networking of local government senior staff and peer learning;
  • Promotion of the quality of education, training and capacity building targeting local government administration;
