Press Conference: Nalag Condemned Kenyenso’s Murder-Calls for Security

The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), a body made of all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) has condemned the brutal murder of the District Chief Executive for Nkwanta South, Hon. Peter Kojo Kenyenso and other recent inhumane treatments being meted out to its members.

NALAG bemoaned what it described as `threats, harassments, humiliations and undue frustrations’ by certain elements in society on its members which it said frowns on their fundamental human rights.

Addressing a press conference in Accra recently, the President of NALAG, Hon Alhaji Mohammed K. Doku called on authorities responsible to rise to the defense of its members, who according to him are the drivers of the nation`s development. Hon Mohammed Doku who is also the Municipal Chief Executive for the Asunafo North Assembly called on the general public to lend total support to MMDCE`s who he said have offered themselves in service to the nation under extreme resource constrains. He urged members of NALAG to remain calm and remain committed to the national development agenda for the good of the country whiles being cautious of their personal safety at all times.

The association he continued is gearing up to meet the local government minister to discuss the issues bothering on their security.

In other statements, the General Secretary of the Association, Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey mentioned that it has become evident for Chief Executives to be given maximum security since the nature of their responsibilities ends them stepping on peoples toes. Most often it is not all persons who call into their offices with varying requests have all their expectations satisfied.

NALAG also called on the security services to intensify investigations in order to bring perpetrators of the atrocious crime to book. It urged the public to resort to the use of dialogue at all times for the resolution of all misunderstandings to ensure peace and stability.
