NALAG has a New Boss

The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) is pleased to introduce Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey to you as its newly employed General Secretary effective 27th May, 2014. On 31st March, 2014, Hon Agnes Naa Momo Lartey was appointed by the Interim Executive Council of the Association at the time as the Ag. General Secretary.

This act was in line with Article 16 (1) of the Constitution of NALAG. The appointment came as a result of the death and burial of Alhaji I. M. Sherrif, the former General Secretary of the Association on 15th and 16th March, 2014 respectively.

In May 2014, the actual process of recruitment was put in place by the Interim National Executive Council to have a substantive General Secretary. Vacancy of the position was advertised in the Daily Graphic of 18th and 25th May, 2014. An interview panel constituted for the recruitment comprised representatives / directors from the Institute of Local Government Studies, Local Government Service, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and three (3) members from the Interim National Executive Council.

In all 54 applications were received from Ghana and beyond including Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey and shortlisted.

The interview was conducted and Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey emerged the suitable candidate for the position. Hon. Agnes has been the Presiding Member of Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) from March, 2011 to date, and the second Vice President of NALAG for the 2011 to 2013 tenure of the National Executive Council of the Association.

Before joining NALAG, Hon Agnes Naa Momo Lartey had worked at professional and leadership levels with community-based, national and international organisations in various capacities for over 15 years. She has a wealth of experience, having managed over 14 different projects in local governance, citizen-government engagement, water and sanitation, women and children’s right, education and health.

In her carrier as an administrator, she led a number of foundations and was a consultant/facilitator for various organisations.

She was also the Executive Director of Global Initiative on Rights and Developments (GIRD), ACCRA. She is currently a member of the Steering Committee of the Women’s Manifesto Coalition of Ghana. Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey has honours in M.A Human Resource Development
